On Dec. 21, 1951, The Ludington Daily News snow report listed Griswold Mountain near Indian River as having 5″ new snow on a 9″ base.
I found Griswold Mountain in a Consumers Power Company brochure about top ski spots in Michigan’s northern lower peninsula. The map is undated, but seems to be from about 1959. The “mountain” is located just west of I-75 and the Straights Highway (Old US-27) in Cheboygan county between Burt and Mullet lakes, north of Indian River. Based upon topo maps, the hill seems to have about 200′ of vertical.
