The Cass City Chronicle on Dec. 30, 1976 printed the AAA Michigan 1977 Winter Sports List. It mentions Vulcan USA as having 2 chairs, 1 rope and 9 runs. Vulcan is just down the road from Norway, MI, the home of Briar Mountain, which later became Norway Mountain and still operates under that name. In 1974 two chairs were installed by a company called Norvul. Was Vulcan USA the name of the area run by Norvul? Was it a successor area to Norvul? Was it a different area altogether?
If you have any information about skiing at Vulcan USA, please post it or send it to us via the directions on the About MILSAP page.
In the mid 1970′s to the mid 1980′s, Vulcan USA was operated/owned by the Knaus family of Green Bay, WI.
I believe a distant relative of mine, Noel Dean Turner, built this ski resort and owned it until he died in 1975
