As John Carlisle indicated in a post in 2011 on the Iroquois Mountain page, the Lakeshore Ski Club originally ran a ski operation called Mission Hill Ski Resort in the late ’40s or early ’50s. It was at or near the current Mission Hill Overlook location at the northwest corner of Monacle Lake, near the old cemetery which may be an Anishnabee cemetery.
I originally missed the implication of this comment, but on October 28, Mark Snider sent us a picture of an old ski patch from Mission Hill on our Facebook page.
On January 6, 1961, Mission Hill advertised in the Detroit Free Press (p39) that they had accommodations, a double chairlift, and lots of snow.
